Discussing a Design Blind Spot
Work with a partner. Discuss a time when your team designed for the wrong users or made a false assumption. Talk about what went wrong and how you had to pivot.
• What were you designing, and who did you think your target segment was?
• What survey data or feedback served as your wake-up call?
• How long had you been working on the project before you realized the mistake?
• What steps did you take to validate the actual users' needs?
Email to a Product Manager about Survey Data
Write an email (60–100 words) to your product manager in Chicago. Explain that the latest survey data shows you have been targeting casual users instead of power users, and suggest a quick meeting to discuss a direction change.
• Use the past perfect continuous to describe how long you had been designing for the wrong segment.
