Modern Manners Debate
Discuss in pairs whether traditional etiquette still has a place in fast-paced American cities like New York and Austin, or if it is merely outdated formality.
• Use stance adverbials (e.g. frankly, ironically) to express your personal views on phone usage at dinner tables.
• Debate whether queue-jumping and late RSVPs are minor infractions or signs of declining social decency.
• Share an anecdote about an etiquette blunder you witnessed or experienced recently.
A Polite Reminder
Write an email (60-100 words) to a friend who RSVP'd late and frequently uses their phone during social gatherings in Chicago, gently addressing the issue.
• Employ stance adverbials like frankly or understandably to set a warm yet candid tone.
• Incorporate at least two lesson vocabulary items (e.g. put out, etiquette blunder).
• Ensure your grammar includes a formal future construction or a noun clause.
