Delegation Dilemma Role-Play
Work with a partner. One of you plays a micromanaging supervisor in a London firm who cannot let go of control; the other is a frustrated employee asking for more autonomy and decision rights. Discuss how to redesign your workflow.
• Explain specific instances where you felt micromanaged last week.
• Propose setting clear boundaries and an outcome-focused approach.
• Agree on a 'trust but verify' system with regular check-ins instead of constant surveillance.
Email to a Department
Write an email (60-100 words) from a department head in New York to your team announcing a new initiative to reduce bottlenecks and increase autonomy.
• Clearly state that you are handing over more responsibility and decision rights.
• Mention that you expect team members to use their professional judgement.
• Encourage staff to reach out during regular check-ins rather than waiting for constant sign-offs.
