The Scottish Highlands Expedition
Abigail's Entry, Day 1: We finally embarked on our long-planned road trip through Scotland, heading north from Manchester in our spacious rented van. Scott was convinced that everything was going to go according to schedule, but I knew better.
Scott's Entry, Day 1: The kids were slightly restless at first, but we managed to keep the peace by playing word games in the backseat. Kyle is reading a novel, and Abigail is listening to music on her headphones.
Kyle's Entry, Day 1: Woof. Big metal box moved for hours. Smelly shoes everywhere. Scott dropped a sausage on my head. Best day of my life so far. We stopped near a freezing lake.
Abigail's Entry, Day 3: We rented a quirky stone cottage near Inverness. It's much more cramped than our house, and we keep getting on each other's nerves because there's only one bathroom to share.
Scott's Entry, Day 3: We had a minor change of plan today because of torrential rain. Instead of going sightseeing with kids at the castle, we visited a local wool museum. Everyone seemed tired but happy.
Kyle's Entry, Day 3: Rain fell from the sky for ten thousand years. Humans made me wear a ridiculous yellow raincoat. I hid under the kitchen table and ate a discarded crisp.
Abigail's Entry, Day 5: Dad tried to bribe my brother with extra pocket money so he would stop complaining about the endless hiking. It didn't work, and Kyle started barking at a sheep.
Scott's Entry, Day 5: We attempted to compromise on our itinerary, letting Abigail choose the afternoon activity. She wanted to visit a modern art gallery in Glasgow, which surprisingly everyone enjoyed.
Kyle's Entry, Day 5: We went to a fancy building with weird white walls. I was forced to wait outside with a stranger who smelled like wet wool. I barked until someone gave me a biscuit.
Abigail's Entry, Day 7: Heading home now. My holiday romance with the boy from the cafe in Edinburgh is officially over, and we are all exhausted. At least we survived without any major disasters.
Scott's Entry, Day 7: Looking back at our holiday photos, I realize that road trips with kids are chaotic, but they are totally worth it. We are bound to do it again next year.
Kyle's Entry, Day 7: Car smells like wet dog and stale cheese again. We are finally returning to my rug. I am never leaving the house ever again.
