Dear Debug: The Comma Corrector

Dear Debug,

I work as a senior frontend developer in Denver, and I'm at my wit's end with my teammate, Rachel. She is so meticulous that it's driving the whole team mad. Every single time we push a pull request or write a message in Slack, she corrects our grammar and formatting. If I miss a comma in a commit message, she sends me a direct message about it. I used to be easygoing, but now I feel completely overwhelmed by her constant nitpicking. The worst part is that she's actually supportive and dependable when we have a major release, but her blunt feedback is infuriating. How can I handle her without starting a conflict?

Signed, Tired in Denver.

Dear Tired,

Thank you for sharing your frustration. Working with someone who focuses too much on tiny details can be exhausting. It's great that she's dependable, but her tactless approach is clearly damaging team morale. Have you tried to have a quiet chat with her? Sometimes, people don't realize how overwhelming they are when they try to clean up everyone else's mess. You should explain that while you appreciate her dedication to the codebase, the constant corrections are draining. Be honest but considerate, and set clear boundaries about which details really matter. When we refactor our code, we don't need to rewrite every single line. By the way, your email made me smile because, honestly, ten years ago I was exactly like Rachel. I used to correct everyone's grammar in every pull request until my mentor sat me down and gave me the exact same advice I'm giving you now. People can change, so give her a chance to adapt!

Signed, Amber.
