Explaining Logistics Roles
Role-play with a partner (or record yourself). Imagine you are training a new remote dispatcher based in Boston. Explain who the shipper, the receiver, and the freight broker are, and describe what each person does during a standard shipment from Chicago to Miami.
• Start by explaining that the shipper is the company in Chicago that has the freight.
• Describe the role of the freight broker in Atlanta who connects the shipper with the carrier.
• Explain that the receiver in Miami unloads the trailer at the warehouse dock.
Email to a New Broker Contact
Write an email (50-90 words) to a new broker agent in Dallas. Introduce yourself as a remote dispatcher for a Chicago fleet. Ask about available loads on the load board, mention your truck's current location, and request their direct phone number.
• Use defining relative clauses to describe your trucks or locations.
• Use the present simple tense for your daily routine and duties.
• Check your word order in direct questions.
