A Day in My Life as a Family Doctor in Leeds

My name is Sarah, and I'm a family doctor in Leeds. My alarm clock rings at six every morning. I'm always tired because I often work overtime at the clinic. I drink a quick cup of coffee, check my phone for urgent messages, and drive to work. I usually arrive at the clinic at seven thirty.

The morning clinic is always busy. Patients arrive with different problems. I see patients, check their test results, and write notes in their digital records. My colleague James is a surgeon at the local hospital, but I work here with Olivia, our wonderful practice nurse. We don't have time for a long break, so we eat a quick sandwich at our desks.

After the morning clinic, I often do home visits for elderly patients. They can't always travel to the clinic. I check their blood pressure, talk about their symptoms, and update their medical files on my tablet. Driving around Leeds in the afternoon traffic is difficult, but I listen to my favorite podcasts in the car.

I usually finish my afternoon appointments at five o'clock. But my day doesn't end there. I still need to answer phone calls from the pharmacy and check lab results. My oldest patient, Mr. Higgins, always visits on Thursdays. He's ninety years old, and he always brings a terrible joke for me. That ten-minute chat with him is the best part of my long day.

Finally, I drive home late. I don't cook a big dinner because I'm too tired. I just eat some soup, watch television for half an hour, and go to sleep. Being a family doctor is hard work, but I really love helping people in my community every single day.
