Discussing a Differential Diagnosis
Work with a partner. One of you is an attending physician and the other is a resident at Seattle General Hospital. Discuss a difficult case using the whiteboard and modals of deduction.
• Present the patient's main symptoms and history.
• Use 'must', 'might', 'could', and 'can't' to discuss possible diagnoses.
• Cross off unlikely causes based on the latest blood test results.
• Decide on the next diagnostic step for the differential.
Clinical Handover Note
Write a short handover message (40–120 words) to the incoming night-shift doctor at Boston General Hospital, summarizing the differential diagnosis for a complex patient.
• Keep sentences concise and use bullet points for clarity.
• Include key symptoms and your current deductions using modals.
• Mention what lab results or tests are still pending.
