Role-play: The Admission Interview
Work with a partner. One student is Resident Jennifer at Boston General Hospital, and the other is an elderly patient admitted for observation. Conduct an initial assessment.
• Ask about the patient's general appearance, vital signs, and current symptoms.
• Check the patient's allergy band, fluid balance, and temperature chart.
• Discuss the working diagnosis and ask if the patient has any questions about the ward bed.
Writing Admission Notes
Write a short clinical handover email (50-100 words) from a resident in Boston to the incoming doctor on the ward. Include information about the patient's vital signs, examination findings, and falls risk.
• Use clear bullet points for vital signs and working diagnosis.
• Check your use of present perfect and past simple tenses.
• Ensure all medical terms like oxygen saturation and fluid balance are used correctly.
