Investigating a Production Bug
Role-play with a partner. One of you is Sean (the developer) and the other is Allison (the system administrator). Discuss a critical bug that happened during the morning outage.
• Explain what you were doing when the database went down.
• Describe the steps to reproduce the bug.
• Suggest a temporary workaround before you find the root cause.
Write a Bug Report Email
Write an email to the engineering team about a bug you discovered today. Describe the actual result, the expected result, and your attempts to find a solution.
• Start with 'First of all' to explain how to reproduce the bug.
• Use past continuous to describe what was happening when the bug appeared.
• Use 'although' or 'because' to explain why we need a workaround now.
