Role-Play: Locating a Delayed Truck
Work with a partner. One student plays Sean (a broker agent asking for updates), and the other plays Allison (a dispatcher explaining truck status using modals of deduction).
• Ask why Unit 402 is showing a stale location on the map.
• Use modals of deduction (must be, might be, can't be) to explain possible causes (dead zone, phone battery, traffic).
• Agree on the next steps to track down the driver and update the customer.
Broker Status Update Message
Write a short email (40–120 words) to a customer explaining why a truck lost tracking and giving a status update.
• Explain that tracking went dark due to a dead zone or signal issue.
• Use at least two modals of deduction (e.g., 'The driver must be near Dallas', 'He might be unloading').
• Reassure the customer and state when you will send a new tracking link.
